Those Crazy FIDM Kids

We live across the street from FIDM - Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. From what I have heard it is a great school in that field and it is kind of nice to have the students around and in the area.

A lot of them live in the area and more often than not you see them walking from their homes to campus. More often than not they will make a nice comment about Carter, or even stop us for a second to show him some love. Now from this point on I am talking about the female students …

They may be fashion forward but some of the outfits I see on a daily basis - yikes!

I am no fashion expert. As a matter of fact I don’t have any sort of fashionable taste what so ever. I am pretty sure I inherited that from my mom which I am fine with.

Many of the young ladies wear trendy clothing and wear it well. Sometimes the clothing is worn or constructed in a little different manner than you are used to seeing. It’s all good!

But at least once a day there is an outfit that makes me just stop and stare. Take for example the two girls the other day that I saw outside of Ralph’s. They both had crazy outfits on but in all honesty I could only focus on one of them because it took up all of my attention.

Tall blond girl wearing huge wooden heels that were un-walkable - I mean you could see the pain on her face and body as she tried to put one foot in front of the other. Her skirt was, well, not much of a skirt. It was frilly and black and shorter than short. Her legs were home to an interesting fashion statement: remember those horrible looking leg warmers from the 80s, the hot pink ones? Well she had a pair of those on … and then white fishnets over top of them. Yep, you might want to go back and read that last sentence. Her top was short as well and hung off of her shoulders, it was actually one of the tamest things she had on. Of course she sported the ever popular ‘big fly’ sunglasses that took up her entire face. Throw in some over-sized dangly earrings and you have your look for the day.

All kidding aside, I see the FIDM kids lugging their stuff back and forth to school each day and I wish I had an ounce of their creativity. So far it is great to share the neighborhood with them …

… and thanks for keeping me entertained while walking Carter.
