The primary reason for our move to LA was H’s work. Her place of employment was opening a location in downtown Los Angeles and after speaking with her colleagues it was concluded that if she could succeed here over a 2-3 year period it would be great for her career.
I worked in an job where I had zero days off from August until mid-April and put in 14-16 hour days on occasion. When you take the work hours and put them together with the grind of what I dealt with on a daily basis, it was time for a change.
So we moved to LA under the premise that H would be busy right away and I would find something else to do before deciding if I want to return to my previous career. I think I’ve have found something I’m interested in and currently find myself taking baby steps into the field. I am kind of flying blind but it’s fun, different and interesting all at the same time.
My last day of work was in early March and since then I have been pretty busy getting us out here and taking care of all the ‘bs’ associated with moving across the country. Along the way I gained some valuable skills, some real and some just funny …
- I’m great with customer service people – I’m not saying I get everything I want but when you have time on your hands you seem to gain patience in dealing with someone on the phone or in person who is not giving you the answers you need. I became a master at holding when “… there is a high volume of calls …” and my wait time is 20 minutes. 20 minutes? Haha, that isn’t going to scare me away.
- I can load a dishwasher with the best of them – Often H will put things in the washer and announce “There is no more room” which is where I come in and move things around to create the perfect load of plates, silverware and glasses – all neatly packed and ready to be cleaned.
- Laundry is an everyday thing – “Where is the shirt I had on the laundry hamper?” … “I washed it and put it in the closet” … “It wasn’t dirty” … If anything is worn, it gets washed. End of story.
- I’ve become a pet psychologist – Working from home gives me some great insight into Carter’s mind. What have I learned? He likes to sleep. A lot.
It great to take time off and reflect. As ive learned in the last 5 years-”life is full of changes and nothing lasts forever”.
Its the evolution of ones life and living. Finding that passion and “living to work” and not “working to live”. Sure its easier said than done. But we all have free will and life is all about choices.
So begin that new chapter in that book that is the story of your life
And keep writing, I sincerely appreciate reading your blog.
In the end all that matters is love and being happy and comfortable whatever the situation might be, work, family, friends etc.
