This weekend was the first in a long time where we didn’t blog. Nothing personal, we hope you don’t take it the wrong way but we tried to take it easy and get some things done.
It seems as though we have a million things going on these days, and instead of breaking them up into seperate posts throughout the week it might be best to get them all out there on the table.
- Thanksgiving in Chicago – We are looking forward to heading back to Chicago on Thursday. It will be great to see the city and experience downtown again. The two of us haven’t been feeling the Christmas/holiday spirit yet and we think it has something to do with the Southern California weather. From an outsiders view it’s tough to get into the season when it’s 82 and sunny outside. We have lunch setup on Saturday with some friends and it will be great to see them. Friday we will be in the loop for a crazy shopping day.
- Thanksgiving in Chicago II – Neither H or I have talked much about the trip lately for one reason or another. H admitted the other day she is somewhat nervous about returning home because she believes it will be hard to leave again. At the same time she said it might be nice to come back to some milder temperatures so who knows. We will not be visiting our condo which has yet to sell for fear it will make us crazy.
- Thanksgiving and Carter – Originally we were having Carter stay at a boarding facility; you do remember the fiasco of tracking one down don’t you? Anyhow, we met a woman in the building with two small dogs a few months ago and she repeatedly offered to take care of Carter while we are away. Apparently she isn’t doing much for the holiday and will be around more often than not. After thinking about it we decided to take her up on the offer. We’re super nervous about how he will act, especially with his idiosyncrasies such as fake peeing and pulling all of a sudden when we get to certain corners (he remembers noises and things that have happened in the past at certain places). The offer to take care of Carter is an amazing gesture by the woman who lives in our building and we probably have nothing to worry about – we’re just over protective.
- Christmas in Canada - Let’s get something straight right off the bad: we’ll be in Canada for Christmas. With that out of the way, man has it been a pain to make flight arrangements home for the holidays! The past three years we have used miles with no trouble what so ever, but this year it has been a chore. To make a long story short we have been squeezed out of seats with United because they have made cuts to the number of flights they are flying over the holiday season. We are now in scramble mode to try and get something to work. I’m sure we’ll get it done, but it would be nice to have this off our plate sooner rather than later.
- The Auto Show – Made our trip to the auto show yesterday and it was pretty good. A few things stuck out in our observations … We went on the same day of the week and same time of day that we would back in Chicago and there were significantly fewer people at the show here … If activity around each manufacturer is any indication of what people are interested in than US auto makers will continue to be in trouble … It was sad to see the models spinning around and talking about the new cars with only one or two people there to listen; a woman was practically begging to give me an OnStar demonstration to keep herself busy … The five minute travel time to and from the auto show was kind of cool … They wrap hot dogs in bacon even at events like this.
- Weather – The weather here has been amazing the last few days, especially at night. Both H and I are convinced that people dress for fashion and not out of practicality. Case in point was the woman yesterday at the auto show wearing a scarf and winter hat …. we were inside.
I still have my rain boots on standby….I dress out of practicality.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Looking at the weather here in LA for the next few days it looks as though your boots may get a workout!
I think you made a good decision for Carter- will he sleep in your loft or be with the lady at her place 24×7? At least he has familiar places and will not be SO freaked out with you and H gone.
I’m loving the weather too and looking forward to a little rain tonite, with any luck… Have a fun (and safe0 trip to the Windy City.
Eric
He is going to stay in the woman’s unit, but we are leaving a key for our place in case they dogs need a time out from one another or something along those lines. I too think it will be familiar for him which is a good thing. We will still be using the boarding facility for Christmas though.
The weather is great right now and I can’t wait to see some real rain if the weather reports are true. The last few nights are the first time we’ve had our windows open while watching tv.
Also, we plan on blogging our trip and throughout the holiday
We went to the Auto show yesterday too. We went early morning, I noticed it started to get busy when we left at around 2pm
Hey Liz – We left around the same time, that’s pretty funny. It was starting to get a little busier but still nothing like I expected. Did you see anything you liked?
Still seeing flip flops and sandals out even today (monday), so “L.A.”, but its not even at the beach or the “O.C.”, its downtown LA..unless you count the urine puddles.
this morning as i was waiting to cross the street at Spring and 6th i thought Ryan Gosling was next to me with a blond female.
I mostly saw his back of his head, back and flat ass…
I didn’t want to get my camera out and snap a shot, cause that be such a “fan gurl” move of which im neither.
It didn’t help that this person was wearing a baseball hat, but they were very skinny/thin, pale white Caucasian slight sign of facial hair, etc.
I’ll be heading to Illinois in July 2009 to see my brother who moved there in 2007. I can hardly wait to sizzle in 100 degree weather.
