… and we stepped out of the United terminal in Chicago and could see our breath.
Good morning from Chicago!
We anticipated putting together a Thanksgiving post on Wednesday night but it never happened. A number of factors influenced our laziness including packing, the North Carolina-Notre Dame basketball game and the best judge on Top Chef Gail Simmons.
Our travel day was not bad at all, beginning with our trip to the airport. Thanks to everyone that suggested the LAX Flyaway bus, it was fantastic! We walked a block to the subway and took the train to Union Station. Well placed signs took us around the fantastic looking building to the kiosk outside for our $16 round trip tickets for two. What a deal! There was hardly any traffic on the highway and the total time to leave our house to arrival at LAX was 35 minutes, and part of that was only because United was the last terminal on the route.
For the first time ever we checked in online the day before our flight and man did it ever makes things easy. We rolled up to the kiosk and confirmed we had a single bag to check (we paid for it online the previous day, still a rip off). A United employee tagged it and we were on our way to security. After TSA made fun of H’s rhyming middle and last name we were through. Total time from arrival at the airport to being through security: 5 minutes.
I don’t have kids and probably shouldn’t judge but I don’t think a packed gate area is the place for a child to run around and scream at the top of their lungs while daddy is sleeping on the floor and mommy is eating.
We’re heading downtown to shop today and should have some pictures to post tomorrow.
Oh yeah the weather? H called me into the bathroom this morning to smell the fresh air and breeze. It’s colder that’s for sure and the high is supposed to be 49 today. Not sure I brought a big enough jacket but we were stressed about the weight of our bag and how much we were bringing.
Hope everyone had a great holiday, and for those in Canada ummm a good Thursday.
Isn’t Flyaway awesome? I love that service, use it every time. Thankfully, most of my flights are through southwest, meaning first terminal drop off, woo woo!
Glad to hear you guys made it safe and that you had a good holiday!
Not sure about being asked to smell the fresh air in the restroom- but sure hope you all have a great time at home and have a blast breathing-seeing and reveling in the cold ass air.
Welcome home!
Lola – Flyaway was great on the way out of LA, hopefully it holds up to the test on the way back!
Christine! – Haha, it was interesting to smell the fresh, crisp air throughout the day. I know it sounds strange but it’s an interesting sensation
well, hopefully you won’t have anywhere to go immediately after landing, because that’s the one area of FlyAway that sometimes frustrates me.
i’ve gone when the bus to union station (make sure you dont get on the wrong flyaway bus!) came within the 15 minutes they promised, but during heavy traffic hours, I have waited up to 25-30 minutes. Also, the last time i flew on Delta (and I mean LAST….what a sucky airline), I was at terminal 7. by the time the Flyaway bus made it down to my terminal, it was full. Luckily there was another one, just two minutes away. Hopefully your return trip isn’t as hairy and i think they ramped up the number of buses to/from Union Station since the last time I took it. even with its warts, I’ll still take it over any other mode to get to LAX.
Spent the day in Anaheim- Disneyland of course…and it was 80* if it was anything! Fantastic!! Cheers to enjoying your visit!
