I know we said yesterday we’d post about our first day in Chicago but things got away from us this morning, particularly dealing with Air Canada for our trip home to Canada over Christmas (but that is another story).
Friday:
After a good sleep we hopped in the car with H’s mom and headed downtown for some shopping. It was great to see Chicago decorated for the holidays and I must say the city does it up right. We didn’t buy too much, nor did we have the chance to see everything we wanted. There is talk of heading back into the city on Monday, perhaps to pick up a few things and see some areas of the loop we didn’t get to see.
It wasn’t long ago the Sun Times building used to sit on the Chicago River where the Trump Tower is just about done rising from the ground. The spire has yet to make it to the top, and we didn’t see Ivanka (damn). It’s a beautiful building and fits in well with the great Chicago skyline.
It looks like the sidewalks were packed but it really wasn’t too bad. A lot of the business on the other side of the street is a result of the fur protesters.
The Christmas tree inside the Walnut Room of Marshall Field’s Macy’s.
The city’s official Christmas tree outside the Daley Center in downtown. I could have walked around it constantly for the chance to smell the fresh scent of the evergreen.
The corner of Michigan and Upper Wacker. Every inch of downtown was decorated, and the Wrigley and Tribune buildings looks as great as ever.
Lights on Erie Street near where we parked the car. It was a great walk from Michigan Avenue back to the car with all the buildings decorated.
More to come tomorrow!
