Back in August we talked about signing up for Netflix, something we have yet to do. A lot of our delay has to do with the ‘new’ television season but there are still days when we don’t find our favorite series showing new episodes. The weekend is the toughest for us since there are very few things scheduled that we feel compelled to watch. So the idea is back again and we’re talking about a Netflix subscription so we have something to watch on the weekends, and maybe we can take advantage of the screening room here in the building.
Having said that, television is our entertainment. Some people go to clubs, others have a large circle of friends to rush off and see. Since we don’t have any of our family here television has become our go to if you will.
We are entertaining this weekend so we will be alright television wise but I seriously think we are about to join the Netflix people some time next week.
H, yes, this is who you think it is. I am not sure if you like indie films but if you do, check out GreenCine as well at greencine.com. DJ out…my brain is fried from the bar exam.
Welcome to the Tribe!
I love NetFlix. My subscription has the instant online viewing thing, where I can instantly watch shows and movies to on my computer. It kinda sucks, since I have a medium sized laptop, no bigscreen here. I’m sure there’s some way to hook it up to the TV to watch it there, but I have yet to do my research (I think I need a “S Cable”, whatever that is…). They’re adding more and more titles to the instant viewing selecton, but it’s fairly decent right now. I tend to watch the TV show box sets more than movies.
You can buy a special box for like $100 to stream your Netflix directly to the TV too…or if you have an XBox, it’s already NetFlix ready. But I’m nowhere near ready to plop down that kind of money for that. And until they add more titles to the instant viewing, for now, the little red envelopes and watching the latest episode of Heroes on my computer keeps me entertained enough.
Jake’s done the whole Netflix/Xbox thing, and while I’m always on the conservative side when it comes to home entertainment tech, I’m hooked. I can stream shows directly to our TV through the Xbox via my laptop… if that makes sense… using PlayOn (free; playon.com)
Netflix has some TV shows available to play online but not many. Fortunately, you can watch most shows on the network’s website, go full-screen, and output from your laptop to TV via an S-video cable (LA Lola, it’s really simple once you buy the cable).
I do wish Netflix would add more movies to the “watch instantly” feature, which they’re doing steadily.
But overall, if you’re staying in a lot (like I’m doing lately to conserve cash), it’s a great ‘investment.’ I make do with the 2-DVDs-at-a-time package, but could easily upgrade to 3 for convenience. I still can’t bring myself to watch “Sicko” just yet and it’s been sitting here.
‘S-video cable’ added to my shopping list, thanks Rich!
