Just some random thoughts and things going on with us today.
We went here for lunch on Saturday . . .
We found ourselves at the original In-N-Out Burger in Baldwin Park, a location that also includes their “university” and a corporate store. If you are ever in the market for an In-N-Out Christmas ornament or clothing, this is your place.
We’ve complained a fair amount last week about people’s ability to park here in California and all the dings and scratches we are getting on our doors. So we just happen to park by the corporate store because we know we’ll check it out after we eat, and there is nobody in the two spots to the left of us and nobody in the four spots to the right of us. We come out and find this:
I was surprised when looking at this picture because it doesn’t look terrible but it was definitely worse in person. H struggled to get our door open without hitting the car beside us, then squeezed her way into the seat. A few things: 1. With all the open spots around us you decide to park next to us, and 2. You decide to park like this. Grrrrrrrrrr!
We used the hot tub for the first time yesterday and noticed something interesting.
- Depth of the pool: 3 ft. 6 in.
- Depth of the hot tub: 3 ft. 8 in.
The hot tub is deeper than the pool, go figure. Of course there is also a sign that tells you not to dive in the hot tub. Duh.
Late last week and into the weekend we also learned how many crazy laws there are here in California. It’s almost impossible to do something without being subject to being sued. H had some training recently and came home freaked out about everything she now does or says. I certainly understand the need for laws to protect individuals and their rights but there is certainly a point when things start to get out of hand. There should be a healthy balance between common sense and the law, but who says where the balance is? Therein lies the problem I suppose.
We did not attend Fiesta Broadway this weekend. The two of us wandered over last year as bright-eyed new residents to Los Angeles and came away disappointed. It’s one giant expo for corporations to hand out cheap free stuff and entice people to consider or sign up for their services. Sure there are a few stages with singing and dancing but for the most part it’s a string of tents offering handouts for their services. Last night on our evening walk I saw a number of people coming back from the event with their tote bags that they no doubt spent 45 minutes in line for. One trip to their web site gives you an idea of just how corporate an event it is.
This guy got a bath this weekend and no longer smells like downtown Los Angeles.

Hey you were in my neighborhood! Well sort of. I like to go to that in-n-out. Carter looks like he is frowning.
That’s a pretty cool In-n-Out location. We were on our way to the mall (yes we travel 35 minutes to go to the mall) and saw it from the highway.
In the picture with Carter, H is lying to him and pretending she has a treat so he will look at the camera
3′6″ sounds like a lap pool, odd. Is the pool long and not curved?
I wouldn’t exactly say long – it’s rectangular and if I had to guess I’d say 40-50 ft. long. It wouldn’t take an average swimmer more than 5-10 seconds to get from one end to the other.
Carter looks great!
