A while back we talked about our cell phone plans and the option of switching carriers.
Now things are starting to get serious.
We’ve always had good service with Sprint and the price of our plan ($60/month with unlimited everything) cannot be touched, and we know it. However their phone selection is terrible and the two H and I both have now are somewhat unreliable. Mine freezes more often than not, texts don’t always go through in a timely fashion and our battery life sucks.
We are out of contract as of March but weighing our options and waiting to see if the much anticipated Palm Pre is going to be available to us on our heavily discounted plan.

Low and behold it isn’t.
If we wanted the Pre, a Blackberry or any other type phone we would need to give up our $60 a month plan and move to something in the area of $130 a month. That’s more than double!
Our loyalty to Sprint is quickly fading after they removed unlimited text on my line but not H’s, and subsequently charged me $15 extra a month for the service. Nobody could explain why they took it away but they can’t give it back either. Five phone calls later and I think the $15 charge has been reversed but I am now without text messaging.
A call to the Sprint retention (account services) department was useless. They tried hard to sell me more HTC phones running Windows Mobile (WM). I can’t stand WM – it freezes more often than not and it’s rather clunky to say the least. I asked about Blackberries and it would run us an extra $60 a month, which is the current cost of our whole bill. I’d also have to pay extra for unlimited text.
You would think a company like Sprint that is hemorrhaging customers would do a little something to keep people who’ve paid their bill on-time and been loyal customers for 6+ years. Nope.
Called Verizon and the guy told me right off the bat that he can’t touch Sprint pricing but can guarantee their service is better. Of course he can with these guys following me around all day.

The Sprint plan that would run us $130 a month is $160 a month on Verizon.
Next call to AT&T and talk about the iPhone. Short story is it would cost $150 a month but the minutes would roll over, something the other two carriers don’t do.

In this day in age the last thing I want to do is spend more money. I also know we are in the minority when it comes to our cell phone plan and spend less than 95% of the population probably.
