Guest, Gas and Craigslist

Posted in family on April 19, 2008 by cartersblog

This post is all over the place by the way …

We have a guest in town and spent last night up at Griffith Park before heading to Hollywood to walk around and see the ’stars’ on the sidewalk. It has been a fun couple of days thus far and we look forward to a good weekend. I think Pasadena might be on our list of places to check out, and of course a beach at some point. You can’t have people come to L.A. and not see the Pacific Ocean!

How about the price of gas? Around the corner from us they are charging 4.10 for regular. I think we can get it cheaper outside of the city today. It is now getting to the point where we will end up eating one less meal out a month in order to keep the car on the road. When I moved to the U.S. five years ago gas was around 1.80 or so. I can’t believe it has increased this much, and we all know it isn’t going to change.

We are going to put some new photos up soon, most of them focusing on our road trip from Chicago to Los Angeles.

If you get a chance, check out my very short comment here about our run-in with another dog owner the other night.

We sold some tv trays on Craigslist the other day, and now we have a surround sound system for the computer up there. Just a few odds and ends that we don’t need as much anymore. We have always had good success with Craigslist, selling an old couch and all of our previous living room furniture on there.

I think we have a new hidden gem for downtown L.A. by the way, I will get a post up tomorrow about it.

More Organizing and Some Goodbyes

Posted in family, relocating on March 24, 2008 by cartersblog

H and I spent most of Saturday night watching basketball and beginning to organize the stuff we want to take in the car with us. We are trying to limit what we take with us in to two ’suitcases’ and four small Rubbermaid containers. We put most of our jewelry in Zip-Loc bags and packed them away; set aside our important documents that need to be with us.

Sunday we did a little more organizing in the morning, mostly clothing. The rest of the day was spent with H’s family for Easter/going away. It was the first time in a while that most of her family was together and it was great to see everyone and spend some time with them. Everyone will be missed greatly but I know a point will be made on our end to visit as often as possible. The day wore Carter out as he slept the entire ride home and has been lazy most of today.

My job this morning is to set aside a definitive section of ’stuff’ that is going with us in the car so the movers can come in tomorrow and pack everything else in sight.
