I am in the midst of stringing together 3-4 posts about our experience thus far here in Southern California/Los Angeles.
Everyone has told us “Give it a year, maybe a year and a half …” … well we’ve been here 18 months so it’s time to check in and see where we stand on things.
Give me a day to get things rolling.

Did you watch the season premier last night?
I love the fact they started the race at the super cool Los Angeles river, complete with graffiti and very little water. When I hear ‘river’ that’s not exactly what I think of but it’s so LA.
I don’t want to spoil any of the show but three things stick out:
- They eliminate one team right off the bat in the river. Phil points out about ten times in the first 5 minutes that one team will be eliminated for first time ever at the starting line. As if it’s not bad enough you got eliminated, Phil makes it a point to explain this over, and over and over again.
- How about Lance and Keri – especially Lance. In this guy’s first 30 seconds on TV he talks about how smart he is, and they will do well because he is muscular. It’s also really classy when he does the whole throat slashing move every chance he gets.
- The Japanese game show was a-w-e-s-o-m-e. “Eat the wasabi!”

I got up this morning to the sound of alarms/high pitched noises from construction across the street at 6:15 am. Again. Hey developer of 717 Flower, it’s getting old!
Anyhow, I tried to think of something clever and witty to write about today but I’ve got nothing.
We haven’t done anything exciting this week.
Nothing is new with our holiday plans – still shopping for Christmas flights.
We don’t have any plans for the weekend.
It’s still really, really hot here.
Carter is still lazy.
I haven’t heard from our tenant back in Chicago so I suppose we are still renting.
Like I said, there isn’t too much going on here.

I think the title says it all … let’s go!
Carter being tired. Why? A neighbor on the third floor puts their dog on the balcony the last two mornings where the puppy barks, cries and yelps.
This is as close as we got to the Emmy Awards on Sunday – a sign in the middle of Flower Street.
This is the billboard in our parking lot right now. I can’t complain about Heidi being there every day. Have you seen the new season? I have to imagine applications to FIDM are up because their name appears in the show at least every 30 seconds – a shot outside, painted on a wall, spoken by Tim …
Building on Flower Street is still not finished – and the developer filed for bankruptcy.
My favorite downtown project: Concerto. What does it have in common with the building across the street? Yep, bankruptcy.
I suppose this person is “expressing their feelings”.
The corner of Flower and 9th in downtown Los Angeles. Our parking lot is on the right, the tall building on the right is SkyLofts. The US Bank building is in the back on the left – it’s always in movies and commercials and was a target of terrorists back in the day.
You know who on the elevator ride back upstairs from our walk.

Fall used to be my favorite season. Why do I say it used to be?
It doesn’t exist here in Los Angeles.
I like fall for the same reasons I like Spring. It’s cooler and there is sometimes a great breeze. Grayish skies with thunderstorms here and there.
Chicago and Canadian falls have the leaves turning color and falling off the trees.
Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer and beginning of fall – a signal that winter is around the corner but not before some nice weather tailor made for an evening walk outside.
So what’s fall like here in Los Angeles?
Here ya go!

Phrases not traditionally associate with fall:
- Scorching sunshine
- Extreme heat
- Hot
- Sizzling
Ugh, everyone has said it takes 12-18 months to acclimate and ‘fall in love’ with Southern California. I’m working on a post about that topic but in the mean time neighbors … enjoy the fall weather here.
